The Georgia right-wing lawmaker made the unusual warning while getting the audience excited for Donald Trump’s Saturday night event in Youngstown, Ohio.

Mr. Trump is in the state to show his support for Republican candidate for US Senate, J. D. Vance, who is engaged in a close contest for the seat with Democratic Representative Tim Ryan and Congressman Jim Jordan.

She said that the Department of Education would be cut off from funding if the government intended to “replace parents and brainwash children.”


In An Effort To Expand Into The Educational Technology Market, YouTube Has Released Player For Education

On Thursday, YouTube announced the release of Player for Education, a new platform devoid of advertisements and personalized recommendations for educational videos.

The new integrated video player for educational material applications will give users with a “in-depth, organized learning experience,” allowing them to better “avoid distractions” while studying.

YouTube said it will be working with a few educational technology firms including Edpuzzle, Purdue University, Purdue Global, and Google Classroom to help with the first stages of its deployment.

The business has said that the United States and South Korea would serve as the first launch locations for the platform, but that expansion to additional nations is in the works.

Free and paid courses and quizzes, which will allow producers to let viewers evaluate their knowledge in an interactive fashion, are just two of the new tools that YouTube has introduced for learners and creators generating educational material on the site.

YouTube said on its blog that a creator who has just uploaded a series on algebra may use the quiz feature under the “Community” tab to assess their viewers’ understanding of the material covered in the videos.

Courses are planned to debut in early 2023 and will be available for in-app purchase by viewers, while quizzes will be released in the subsequent months.

We don’t know how much the service will cost yet, but we do know that for the first two years, 100% of the proceeds will go to the artists whose videos will be shown in schools.

YouTube’s Player for Education isn’t the company’s first foray into the classroom setting. The video-streaming company has been actively promoting a variety of programs over the last several years, including a $20 million fund for creators generating instructional videos.

Afghan Girls In Paktia Protest Against The Closing Of Their Schools

Dozens of young women demonstrated against the Taliban authorities for closing their secondary schools just a few days after courses had begun.

Classes resumed the week before last at five government secondary schools in the eastern province of Paktia. This comes after hundreds of girls and tribal elders called for the schools to reopen.

However, according to a women’s rights activist and inhabitants of the city of Gardez, when students attended to their courses on Saturday, they were advised to go back home instead.

The girls demonstrated against the decision to close the school while wearing their school uniforms, which consisted of a black shalwar kameez and a white hijab. They marched through the center of Gardez.

Since they retook power in August of last year, the Taliban have enforced stringent restrictions on girls and women in order to bring them into line with their puritanical interpretation of Islam. These limitations have essentially forced women and girls out of public life.

On Saturday, the girls marched through the city center as residents and shop owners observed from nearby streets.

Officials insist that the restriction is nothing more than a “technical issue,” and they promise that lessons will resume as soon as a curriculum that is based on Islamic regulations is created.

As a result of the pressure exerted by community members and families, there are still some public schools open around the nation.

However, they are still closed in the majority of the provinces, including the capital city of Kabul as well as Kandahar, which is the de facto capital of the Taliban. According to UNICEF, there are around three million young women in Afghanistan who are unable to access secondary school due to cultural norms.

The Democratic governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Wolf, has been in office for over eight years, and during that time, state spending for education has grown by billions of dollars. This increase was included in the state budget that was enacted earlier this month.

Attorney Dan Urevick-Ackelsberg, of the Public Interest Law Center, spoke on behalf of the plaintiffs and characterized the present system as being riddled with serious and systemic problems. They have the right to take legal action, he stated, if they believe their educational rights are being abused in any way.

In other states where courts have determined that school financing does not meet constitutional criteria, the usual effect has been years of more litigation and conflict between arms of government with “little or no practical results,” according to Patrick Northen, a lawyer representing House Speaker Bryan Cutler, a Republican from Lancaster. Mr. Cutler is the current speaker of the House of Representatives.

African Leaders Announce Education Plus, A Big Step For Girls’ Education And Development

With the introduction of the Education Plus effort on the African continent, world leaders gathered in Lusaka, Zambia, committed to taking steps to keep teenage girls in school, which they assured would drastically lower the likelihood that they would get infected with HIV. 

Approximately 4200 teenage girls and young women in sub-Saharan Africa get infected with HIV each and every week. By the year 2020, the proportion of female teenagers between the ages of 15 and 19 who contracted HIV in the area was six out of seven. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2020, AIDS-related diseases will be the second greatest cause of death for women in sub-Saharan Africa who are 15 to 29 years old, after maternal mortality.

The key to putting a stop to the AIDS epidemic in Africa is to ensure that secondary education is accessible to all young women and to provide them with opportunities for vocational training, life skills education, and employment. According to research, ensuring that girls finish their secondary school may cut their risk of contracting HIV by as much as half. Furthermore, combining this strategy with a set of services and rights aimed at empowering girls can cut their risk of contracting HIV even further.

Students in Sub-Saharan Africa should have access to excellent secondary education for free by 2025, as well as complete sexual health and reproductive rights education; they should be free of gender-based and sexual abuse; they should be able to move smoothly from school to employment; they should have economic stability and self-determination.  “My government has committed to the provision of free primary and secondary education for all,” said President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia, who hosted the summit. “Education is the greatest equalizer and with appropriate education, everyone is given an opportunity to explore their full potential and be able to participate in the development process. Access to education empowers both girls and boys as it enhances their ability to access decent jobs and other means of production thus alleviating poverty.”

Macky Sall, the President of Senegal as well as the current Chairperson of the African Union, together with three other African presidents and Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, inaugurated the effort.  “It is my pleasure to join you on the occasion of the ceremony to launch the continental “Education Plus Initiative” under the leadership of the Organisation of African First Ladies (OAFLAD) in support to children and young girls in particular,” said President Sall. “There is need for action to promote women’s rights and autonomy, to fight against the discrimination and violence which girls and women face. We must address gender inequality at all stages of life. At the continental level, AU Member States are committed to accelerating the implementation of gender-specific economic, social, and legal measures aimed at combating the HIV/AIDS pandemic by adopting various policy and legal frameworks including the Maputo Protocol.”

The event was launched in collaboration with the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development, which was chaired by H.E. Mutinta Hichilema, the First Lady of Zambia.  “I am confident that Education Plus will enable us all to protect, provide and preserve the lives of adolescent girls and young women by enhancing education standards and preventing new HIV infections by use of various interventions,” said Ms Hichilema.” “We lend our voice to the transformative call for gender-inclusive education in Africa,” said Leyla Gozo, Executive Secretary of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development, “First ladies are uniquely positioned to amplify this inititiative.”

Since the COVID-19 pandemic has forced millions of girls out of school, the Education Plus project has taken on even more significance. Even before the pandemic, over 34 million teenage girls in the sub-Saharan Africa area were not enrolled in secondary school. These girls ranged in age from 12 to 17 years old. Evidence also suggests that girls who have dropped out of school are less likely to return.

There are ten nations in Africa that have signed on to the effort, which is a collaboration between UNAIDS, the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO), the United Nations Children’s Fund, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the United Nations Women.
