A California elementary school will include a “Satan Club” into the curriculum.
According to ABC 33/40, the Satanic Temple and Reason Alliance are going to establish a club that will soon be open to students at Golden Hills Elementary School. This is not to be confused with the Church of Satan, which is a theistic religious organization; rather, the temple is an atheistic religious community.
The organization refers to its course of study as “self-directed education,” and its primary objective is to foster “the intellectual and creative interests of students.” According to the website of the temple, they established the group in response to a request made by parents, educators, or “other community members.”
According to a statement published on the organization’s website, “while the classes are designed to promote intellectual and emotional development in accordance with TST’s tenets, no proselytization or religious instruction takes place,” and the group “is not interested in converting children to satanism.”
However, a significant number of parents of children attending Golden Hills Elementary School in Tehachapi are angry with the implementation of the ASSC, and they have said that it has no place in educational institutions.
The Tehachapi Unified School District issued a statement saying that they cannot discriminate against organizations seeking to use their facilities based on a perspective since it is against the law, despite the fact that they do not endorse any of the groups who organize after school activities on the site. The statement was in response to a question about whether or not the district may discriminate against groups wishing to use their facilities based on a viewpoint.
It is said that there are at least three children who have signed up to be a member of the After School Satan Club, and it is also mentioned that there would be some people protesting outside the club who do not support it.
